Numeracy and Mathematics
Nailing the basics and Going Beyond
No two students are the same. They all have strengths in different aspects of their numeracy or mathematics, and they learn in totally different ways. Some require a catch up, others extension to meet their potential. We recognise, and have worked with, students with ADHD, dyspraxia, and other learning challenges.
Starting with a diagnostic evaluation of students to identify their individual needs through observation and a range of mathematical activities, we also discuss the child’s personality, and how we might best tutor them.
Students’ activities are individualised to meet their specific needs. Whether they are a computer learner, a hands-on, or someone that needs to stretch their legs, we base our program around how best to motivate and develop their learning and understanding.
Links 2 Learning tutors have access to a variety of online subscriptions to support learning on-site and at home, as well as a large library of educational hands-on activities and outdoor space. The variety of games and concrete materials at The Studio aids in a deeper and faster understanding of the concepts we need to teach. These resources are under constant review and development to meet the changing needs of our students.
Some of the different aspects we teach include:
strategies using bridging, trading and preferential multiples to complete algorithms in the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division);
understanding basic number facts and processes;
problem solving using a number of techniques to suit individual student’s learning styles;
identifying gaps in maths theory knowledge and working to address the specific area of need.
increasing understanding and skills across the mathematical strands, whether it be numbers or fractions; geometry or algebra; data or statistics; or other areas across the Mathematics Syllabus.
Our Numeracy and Mathematics programs are led by a retired Mathematics Head Teacher, who has both degrees - and extensive experience in - Primary teaching and High School Mathematics. This unique background, allows for students to be guided not only through what they currently need to develop in, but where it leads into future years.
Cost: $55 for a one-on-one (individual) fifty minute lesson. Ask about small group sessions if required.
